GRAP Status & Delhi-NCR Pollution FAQs

The Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) is a set of emergency and preventive measures used to control air pollution in Delhi-NCR. It provides progressively stronger actions as air quality deteriorates, covering areas such as construction, vehicles, industries, dust, waste burning and public activities.

GRAP uses different stages linked to worsening air quality. Broadly, Stage I covers Poor air quality, Stage II Very Poor, Stage III Severe and Stage IV Severe Plus or Emergency conditions. Each higher stage introduces additional measures and tighter restrictions. The exact measures can be modified or invoked through official CAQM orders.

Stage IV represents the most stringent level of GRAP measures. Depending on the applicable CAQM order, measures can include restrictions on certain truck movements and construction activities, additional restrictions on polluting activities, and measures affecting schools, offices and other activities. Because Stage IV measures can be updated or modified, residents should always check the latest official CAQM order before relying on a specific restriction.

Residents can monitor the current GRAP stage and AQI, follow applicable vehicle and construction restrictions, avoid open waste burning, reduce unnecessary vehicle use and use public transport when practical. During severe pollution episodes, vulnerable individuals should reduce prolonged outdoor exposure and follow appropriate health and safety guidance.

GRAP has provided Delhi-NCR with a structured framework for responding to worsening air pollution. Its measures have helped coordinate actions across sectors such as construction, transport, industry and dust control. However, air quality is influenced by multiple factors including weather, wind, temperature, regional emissions, traffic and seasonal pollution, so GRAP alone cannot eliminate pollution.

You can check the current Delhi-NCR GRAP status on this page. The live GRAP status section at the top of GRAP Info displays the currently applicable stage along with AQI information. For legally binding restrictions, always verify the latest notification or order issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).

During periods of poor or severe air quality, NCR residents can reduce exposure by limiting prolonged outdoor activity when AQI is high, keeping indoor spaces well ventilated when outdoor conditions permit, avoiding smoke and open burning, and following appropriate health advice. Children, older adults and people with existing respiratory or cardiovascular problems may need to take additional precautions.

Restrictions on vehicles during GRAP Stage III depend on the applicable CAQM order and the vehicle category and registration location. Certain BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel light motor vehicles have been subject to restrictions under GRAP Stage III measures in Delhi-NCR. Vehicle owners should check the latest CAQM notification and the applicable vehicle restriction rules before travelling.

Gurugram is part of the National Capital Region and can be affected by applicable GRAP measures. Vehicle restrictions can vary according to the active GRAP stage, vehicle type, fuel type, emission standard, registration and the latest CAQM directions. Use the GRAP Vehicle Restrictions Checker on GRAP Info to check your vehicle and always verify the latest official order for the applicable restriction.

GRAP measures can change through official CAQM orders. GRAP Info is an information portal and does not replace official government notifications or legally binding orders.
